Travel day 4

After breakfast we had a short pool morning because today is another travel day. I still have a bit of a head cold so it’s kind of good that it’s a bit of a nothing Sunday. We are sad to leave the Leela Palace, as it was one of the nicest hotels we’ve ever stayed in, and there’s something very special about having most staff get to know you by name as you move around from venue to venue. We do stand out a bit - two white gay guys with a kid, but that just works in our favour, really.

Everything then fell into place today - the check out bill was less expensive than we expected, the Uber rocked up on time (and had air conditioning), and our flight was smooth and short. We had a driver take us the hour long journey through leafy windy roads to our hotel in Goa; the St Regis Resort. He let us put our music on via Bluetooth and Ethan had a short nap. Upon arrival, we had a coffee in the very lavish foyer and remarked how a scene from The White Lotus could have been played out around us. Some turd of a child threw petals from a bunch of flowers he had crushed all over me for some reason while his douchebag of a dad was throwing a tantrum to staff about some issue. Definitely some wealthy people really have never had anyone ever tell them “no” before. The staff asked me if I was ok, and I pointed straight at the kid who was now literally climbing a wall and said he threw them at me. The unimpressed staff told the boy to get down and continued “dealing with” the parent.

A friendly hostess asked Ethan to feed the koi fish in the foyer pond and then she took us in a golf buggy to see the property. It is amazing! It’s part way between a beach and a river and has restaurants, pools, beach activities, a gold course and whatever else a good 5 star resort might have. We found our very schmick room and got straight into our swimmers to cool off in the pool. It was almost 6 already and the sun was setting so we went down to the beach to watch them slice open a bottle of champagne with a sabre… very decadent. We had a reservation at the restaurant by the beach, which was lovely, albeit overpriced for what it was, and the musician could have turned down the volume like, a lot. But otherwise  great start to the next phase of our holiday!
